Buy a WAAS enabled PDA For Improved Navigation Accuracy
The Wide-Area Augmentation System has been in development for many years now. It is finally starting to take hold for PDA GPS systems. In actuality, the WAAS part of the GPS system is built into the GPS receiver, not the PDA part.In any PDA GPS system, you have two major components - the PDA and the GPS receiver. Sometimes the receiver is connected via serial cable to the PDA, but other receivers plug into the Compact Flash (CF) port.
When you have a WAAS enabled PDA GPS system, your PDA can be used for extremely accurate navigation. In fact, ninety-five percent (95%) of the time the accuracy is better then 3 meters (roughly 9 feet for you non-metric people.) This accuracy is achieved through the use of 25 ground monitoring stations placed throughout the United States. These stations report errors in the GPS signal and an error correction signal is broadcast from two stationary satellites over the equator.
