There are many GPS Software applications on the market. Choosing the right program for your application is important because choosing the wrong GPS software can cost a lot of hard earned money.Some GPS software comes with your GPS receiver, but there are third-party software solutions available also. Sometimes, the third-party GPS programs can add funtionality that the GPS manufacturer did not think about.
Depending on whether or not you own a PC or a Mac, the list of programs for your GPS receiver will vary. If you are using a laptop gps receivers, then you will want software compatible for your PC or Mac laptop. If you own a pda gps, then of course you will need GPS software for a PDA.
Microsoft Streets and Trips is one application that can interface to a GPS receiver. In fact, some version of that program come with a GPS receiver in the box. This GPS application will allow you to plan your next vacation with ease.
However, lugging around a laptop might not be the best way to go. That is where a PDA GPS comes in handy. And there are lots of software solutions for the many different PDAs on the market.
One thing you will want to verify when you buy GPS software is the availability of updated map data. This is very important, especially in areas where lots of new development is going on.
In addition to verifying if GPS updates are available, you will also want to make sure the updates are reasonably priced. Many companies will offer the map updates for free, or at least for a limited time after your purchase. Other GPS manufacturers however, will charge you a lot for an update. My wife and I recently updated the gps navigation system in her Infiniti G35 and it was quite expensive.
